University of Queensland Postdoctoral Fellow - 2003
Geert Lovink, media theorist, net critic and activist, studied political science at the University of Amsterdam, and was based in Brisbane at the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies during 2003 as a UQ postdoctoral fellow where his finished his latest book My First Recession. He continues to have an official affiliation with the Centre as an Honorary Research Advisor.
He returned to Brisbane and the CCCS in December 2004 as a co-organizer of the Internet Class 04 event. Lovink is also still involved in www.fibreculture.org, the Australian network for new media research and culture of which he is the co-founder.
In January 2004 Geert Lovink took up a position at Amsterdam Polytechnic/University of Amsterdam where he is building a media lab, dedicated to the digital public domain.
Geert is the director of the Institute of Network Cultures at Amsterdam Polytechnic, which was set up in June 2004, and caters to research, meetings and (online) initiatives in the area of Internet and new media. The INC functions as a framework within which a variety of studies, publications and meetings can be realised.
Geert's latest book Zero Comments came out in 2007 with Routledge New York, a publication which he started in 2003 at CCCS.
